UFS Awards

SUNY University Faculty Senate hosts five awards to honor the service of our members, friends, and others active in shared governance.

(See also various SUNY-wide awards: especially the Shared Governance Award; Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence; Distinguished Faculty Programs; and Chancellor’s Horizon Award for Faculty Research and Scholarship.)

Carl P. Wiezalis University Faculty Senate Fellow Award

This is the Senate’s highest honor to give to one of its own. The University Faculty Senate from time to time may bestow the status of Fellow on a current or former UFS Senator. An individual so honored must have achieved a reputation for exceptional service in the area of faculty governance.

Chaddock-Cramer UFS Mentoring Award

The Chaddock & Cramer/University Faculty Senate Outstanding Mentoring Award is conferred by the University Faculty Senate Executive Committee. Mentoring of junior governance members by senior members has been a long-standing tradition of many governance leaders in both UFS and on-campus governance units. This unwritten code has enabled many UFS leaders to learn to put things in perspective and evaluate alternatives – in terms of governance, career, and life challenges. This award, proposed in 2019, is offered by two UFS governance leaders who owe many of their own successes to such mentoring, and who wish to highlight mentoring as an explicit goal of UFS participation and service.

Friend of the Senate Award

An award for a non-elected member of the Senate for someone from outside the Senate for outstanding service to the Senate.

Ram Chugh Senate Outstanding Service Award

The Ram Chugh/Senate Outstanding Service Award is conferred by the University Faculty Senate Executive Committee. Nominees for the award must have achieved a reputation for outstanding service in the area of faculty governance at the System and Campus levels. Consideration will be given for a sustained level of commitment for a minimum of five (5) years.

Senator Emeritus Award

The Senator Emeritus Award is conferred by the University Faculty Senate. Nominees for the award must have achieved a reputation for outstanding service to the Senate in several capacities over a considerable period of time.
